What is Lymphoedema?
The lymphatic system is the network of glands that helps your body fight infections. When it isn’t working properly, it can lead to swelling, heaviness, or discomfort – mostly in the arms or legs. Lymphoedema may be due to a problem with the development of the lymphatic system itself, or due to damage to the lymphatic system as a result of other conditions like cancer treatment, infection, injury, or other inflammatory conditions like psoriasis or eczema.
Our qualified practitioners leverage Medical Lymphatic Drainage – a specialised form of massage to ease discomfort and improve immune function. They rely on specific, light strokes to encourage lymph to drain through the system and to stimulate lymph node activity. Osteopaths can also help manage lymphoedema by addressing restrictions in joints and soft tissues that may be impeding lymphatic flow. Our clinicians will help bring your swelling down and will improve the overall performance of the lymphatic system.
