Shockwave Therapy

Shockwave therapy is an advanced, non-invasive treatment that helps speed up recovery from stubborn injuries and chronic pain. Using targeted sound waves, it stimulates the body’s natural healing processes – boosting blood flow and triggering new cell growth, helping the body to repair damaged tissue.

What are the benefits of focused shockwave therapy?

Shockwave therapy is designed to complement your broader treatment program and can help:

  • Reduce pain: noticeable pain relief after just a few sessions
  • Improve mobility and function: reduce stiffness and enhance range of movement
  • Accelerate healing and tissue regeneration: stimulate blood flow and trigger the body to start to heal itself

What can shockwave therapy treat?

Shockwave therapy can treat a wide range of injuries and conditions including:

  • Myofascial pain, such as fibromyalgia and trigger points
  • Tendinopathies, such as tennis or golfers’ elbow
  • Superficial calcific tendinitis
  • Greater trochanteric pain syndrome (outer hip pain)
  • Scar tissue adhesions
  • Iliotibial band syndrome (outer knee pain)
  • Plantar fasciitis (heel pain) and heel spurs
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome and other neuropathies
  • Urological conditions, such as erectile dysfunction and chronic pelvic pain
  • Osteitis pubis (groin pain)
  • Arthritic joints
  • Insertional Achilles tendinopathy
  • Coccydynia (tailbone pain)

Focused vs. radial shockwave therapy

We offer both focused and radial shockwave therapy at the Good Health Centre.

  • Radial shockwave therapy: Radial shockwave therapy uses low-energy waves that disperse outwards in a broad pattern that penetrate to a depth of 3–4 cm over a broad area
  • Focused shockwave therapy: Focused shockwave therapy allows for more tailored, precise application of shockwaves up to 12 cm beneath the surface of the skin

Focused shockwave therapy can provide better outcomes for deep, chronic, or calcific conditions including tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinopathy, tennis elbow, stress fractures, and common shoulder conditions (like calcific tendinopathy).
